Head of Systems Engineering

We see it as our goal and purpose to improve people’s quality of life, helping them gain or regain hearing ability through our advanced hearing implants. Did you know for example that there is a proven close relation between hearing impairment and dementia?

Join us in our journey to make a difference for thousands with hearing impairment.

As Manager of the Systems Engineering team, you will:

  • Have a strategic and tactical responsibility for the systems engineering part of our Bone Anchored Hearing Systems (BAHS) and Cochlear Implant (CI) product portfolio by managing a team of 6.
  • Work with your team to further develop system thinking and support an interdisciplinary collaboration to enable the development of premium hearing implant solutions that meets the user needs considering both business and technical considerations.
  • Have an operational responsibility to contribute to product development projects alongside with your team. This will translate for instance in driving break down of use cases/user requirements into cross functional system requirements; driving system architecture definition (eg partitioning into sub-systems); supporting system verification and validation activities (eg traceability between requirements and tests).
  • Work with counterparts to ensure hearing implant systems are compliant with relevant standards and medical directives.
  • Engage with counterparts within the Demant group to create synergies on Systems Engineering standards and establish common strategies for lean state-of-art system engineering methods, models and processes.

Now, why is that important to us? Well, our mission is clear: We want hearing impaired to be able to experience the sounds of life. This is the foundation for everything we do and keeps us focused on innovation and efficiency. We want to develop the world’s best hearing healthcare solutions. Nothing less. We believe systems engineering is about getting the right system design as well as managing complexity with good processes; maintaining the technical integrity by anticipating and solving problems ahead of time; and documenting to control the design along the product lifecycle.

We venture beyond what is technically possible

If you have managed development of similar solutions for many years and crave something new, then we would like to hear from you.

The position is either based at our Oticon Medical office in Sophia Antipolis (France, Nice area) or at our office in Smorum (Denmark, Copenhagen area).

We are an international team and we speak English as standard. We support each other and constantly share feedback and knowledge to improve our results. The Systems Engineering activities are located across Denmark, France and Sweden, so multi-site collaboration and management will be a natural part of your daily work and some travel activity must be expected.

We strongly believe that the best results come from a fruitful team effort, which means that it should come natural to you to guide, grow, and show the team the direction. You consider yourself as “the go-to” in all aspects of Systems Engineering while still focusing on ensuring product performance, patient safety and regulatory compliance.

Bringing your expertise and your new perspectives, insights and ideas are the cornerstones of our success, and we encourage you to think out of the box and structure your work with a high level of freedom.

Our picture of the “Go-to”

Your approach is to deal with challenges with a positive attitude and a smile; a trait we encourage in our company. You are capable of handling uncertainties, and from time to time situations under pressure. We provide a dynamic working environment where adapting to new situations is vital.

Furthermore, you have relevant experience managing a team of systems engineers or leading similar activities from product definition to release to market. This enables you to set a clear direction, achieving your results by leading and motivating others. You are perceived as the one your team turns to.

You have been exposed to working cross-functional; working closely with product management, hardware and software design teams, regulatory affairs and as well as external stakeholders. Your approach is constructive, structured and systematic and you make an impact through clear communication.

So, you are likely to hold a bachelor or master’s degree in engineering or similar relevant background and have a minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant positions. Experience from medical device development and/or from companies developing similar products will be an advantage.
